One of the more surprising additions to the Galaxy S26 Ultra is Ocean Mode — a feature Samsung originally developed for coral reef restoration a couple of years ago, never intended for widespread release.
Fortunately, not only has Samsung changed its mind earlier this year, but Ocean Mode also seems to be rolling out to older Ultra models — or at least the Galaxy S25 Ultra running One UI 8.5 beta firmware.
The S25 Ultra on One UI 8.5 beta has just received a new Expert RAW app update to version 5.0.08.2. And as far as we can tell, this update is adding Ocean Mode to the S25 Ultra.
What about Ocean Mode for the Galaxy S24 Ultra?
Samsung originally developed Ocean Mode for the S24 Ultra as an internal tool for coral reef restoration two years ago. This indicates that the S24 Ultra can handle Ocean Mode, so in theory, there is a good chance that the feature may become widely available for the 2024 flagship as well.
As for the Ocean Mode feature itself, it uses clever algorithms to correct distortions and color issues that occur when filming or capturing photos underwater. The mode has allowed divers to map parts of the ocean floor and monitor coral reefs.

With the feature going public and the summer season only a couple of months away, Samsung's Ocean Mode in Expert RAW might become one of the best features for anyone who plans to go diving this year.
However, one thing to keep in mind is that Ocean Mode is merely a camera feature designed to capture better underwater content. It's clever in its own right but does not improve water resistance in any way.
Ocean Mode doesn't improve water resistance
If you plan on going underwater with your Galaxy phone, the same caveats as always apply regardless of whether or not you have Ocean Mode active. Namely, Samsung phones are IP-rated for fresh water, but salt water and chlorine water can deteriorate the watertight seals and lower a device's water resistance.
In its coral reef restoration efforts, Samsung tackled the IP rating limitations by encasing the Galaxy S24 Ultra in a watertight case. If you plan on going diving and you don't have that kind of equipment on your hand, make sure you follow Samsung's guidelines and don't get a false sense of security from Ocean Mode.
